Skiing Ascutney - Ascutney needs an enema. It has the potential to be one of the best family ski mountains in the East but constantly disappoints. They claim to have 95% snowmaking but we have yet to see 95% of the trails covered. Even when it is cold enough to make snow for weeks, only 50% of the trails are open. They have a wonderful new high-speed lift to the top of 1800 feet of good vertical but the lift has only been open once so far this year. When it is open, the only trail down is poorly maintained. They blame it on the weather but other resorts seem to react better to the same problems. We often stay nearby Ascutney so it is convenient but sadly, our friends will opt to travel to ski other resorts where the conditions are better. When the management of Ascutney stops making excuses and begins operating for the benefit of skiers, they might actually see more than a handful of cars in their parking lot. Ascutney could be a great family ski resort. Jack Barsky (Rhode Island - Feb 07)
