Snowbasin - was home to the Men’s Downhill during the 2002 Olympics. This place has three high speed gondolas. This means that you rarely wait in line because the mountain can handle the crowd. It also means you stay dry when it is blowing and snowing outside.
This is a good place for skiers of all levels. This full service ski resort is located 50 miles north of Park City and about 70 miles from Alta and Snowbird. This 70 miles can be the difference on getting snow and not getting snow. Sometimes storms just head North and miss Alta/ Snowbird and vice versa. The “lake effect” of the Great Salt Lake also tends to make storms hit and miss. So give the resorts a call before you head up to see how much snow they got.

The Snowbasin resort located just outside of Ogden, Utah, has all the amenities one would expect for a Park City or Salt Lake area ski resort, but it stands out in one area: between its elevation and its advanced snow grooming, the resort has made a tradition of opening before most other area resorts, sometimes as early as Thanksgiving weekend or before.
Snowbasin was made famous by the 2002 Winter Olympics, so many have already witnessed its downhill courses via their televisions, but in person it’s a different experience. Like the Brian Head resort of Cedar City, Snowbasin offers a world-class experience without the booking trouble and crowded slopes of some Salt Lake area resorts, and its new Locals Only pass ensures that the area natives will always have access, regardless of the tourist season.

Skiing at Snowbasin - This is a cat I’m afraid to let out of the bag, but I think that the quality of this mountain’s experience has already done it for me. The mountain is huge, which a tram, gondolas, and chairlifts everywhere. The strange thing about all these amenities is the fact that there are no people around to actually enjoy them. Just up the road from Ogden, this place is rapidly becoming not just a local's favorite, but an international destination. I love the fact that Snowbird size runs are available with Idaho size crowds. No Name chute is one of the finest runs in the state of Utah, and a really cool thing to do on big storms is ski right down into Ogden for nearly a 6,000 foot descent. In the department of groomers, the Snowbasin wins again over even Park City, with their amazing Olympic downhill that could be the only groomed run in the world deserving of a double black diamond status.
