Brighton has gained a reputation among snowboarders as a good place to board at a reasonable price. But families, skiers, and even snowbladers should check this place out. It has plenty of expert, intermediate, and beginning skiing.
Take Great Western up, hike ten minutes, and you are skiing great out-of bounds terrain. Speaking of terrain, Brighton has a terrain park that I heard rips. Boarders say there are some great rails here
Brighton is a complete resort. There is a 20 room lodge, ski/board school, and rentals available. And for night owls, Brighton has the most night skiing in Utah. Crowds can be a problem on Holidays. Mark
Skiing at Brighton - Lately, some photographers have been shooting more great photography at Brighton than Alta or Snowbird. Brighton averages as much snow as anyone in Little Cottonwood Canyon and gets half of the crowds. It boasts more snowboarders per capita than any other ski resort on earth, and this is because the terrain is absolutely perfect for someone on a board. Around nearly every corner is a perfect cliff drop into deep powder and there are more little hidden stashes than a person ever would guess with a mountain that seems so straightforward from the parking lot. I personally like to go up toward Sunset Peak and work my way, farming all the powder shots around Tuscarora over to Millicent. That usually takes a whole day and makes it one for the memory books. One thing Brighton has over Alta is trees. Trees will help to preserve snow from elements like sun and wind, which means that Brighton can still hold the goods when Alta is cashed out.

Skiing Brighton - I spent a few days at Brighton the last couple of years, and it seems like a big secret when you line up all the big hitters in Utah like Alta, the Bird, The Canyons, Deer Valley, ad nauseum. No one ever mentions Brighton in that lineup. It truly is a gem that I really Don’t Want You To Know About.
Parked at the end of the highway up Little Cottonwood Canyon, it’s a ghost resort Monday through Friday, and even the weekends aren’t that crowded. It’s got great terrain, and it’s sheltered from the raging winds. Bonus, score. The snow is fantastic (it’s Utah, how could it be anything but super?), the grooming excellent, and if you want some winding trails through the trees, New England Style, they have some of those. There’s hair raising black runs, subtle greens, and some challenging blues, but the overall impression I got was that I hit the motherlode and I wanted it all to myself!
The price of lift tickets is reasonably low, and while everyone is bashing into each other at the more well acclaimed resorts in the area, you can be gliding soulfully here for less cash. Grade A snowriding, and I’ll be back.
