Skiing at Big Sky - If you like wide open slopes and virtually no lift lines, you will fall in love with Big Sky Ski Resort in Montana. The resort has over 3,600 acres and over 150 trails that are suitable for all levels of skiing and riding. The caveat is that Big Sky is about two hours from the Bozeman Airport. However, that is probably why it remains uncrowded. Expert skiers and riders should take the tram on Lone Peak Mountain, where they will find a variety of black and double black trails. Be sure to check out Big Couloir. Intermediates will love the blue cruisers on the lower part of Lone Peak Mountain, especially Calamity Jane. Beginners will find some easy, south-facing trails on Andesite Mountain. Lisa Mercer 06'
Skiing at Big Sky -To many this resort is one of the best kept secrets in US ski resort. A lot of terrain, no lines, sunny days, and fluffy snow. However, the night life is none existant here but if you are there to ski, you will not be disapointed.
We skied at Big Sky several times last winter after a big storm and we were lucky, aparently they haven't been getting us much snow as usuall.
Big Sky - really is Montana’s mega resort. Bridger is to Montana what Snowbird is to Utah. I remember skiing at Big Sky back in 96’ and wondering what everyone was doing with helmets on there heads. Today of course, this is the norm. But back then Big Sky skiers where on the watch out for rocks that are notorious at the top of the mountain.
The Lone Peak Tram will take you to the top of the mountain. This tram has been described as a coke can because of its cylinder shape. The tram only holds 15 people. Big sky has about 4 high speed quads, 4 triples and, and 3 doubles.
The mountain is impressive. It jets up from the skyline like an Alaskan peak. But intermediate and beginners need not worry because about one third of the terrain is suited for you.
When you go, be sure to bring some warm gear. I remember this place being freezing. The average high in the winter is only 20 degrees.
Bridger Bowl
If Big Sky is Montana’s Snowbird, then Bridger Bowl is Montana’s Alta. The locals resort where you can get away from the mega resort hype and just enjoy the snow. Skiing at Big Sky -
Recently my wife kids and me decided to go on a skiing vacation and came here to big sky ski resort. I can not even begin to tell you about all the adventures we experienced here. After much research we decided to go here because it is nice for families and has a reputation for being quiet, which is great for us. My kids, Jeanine and Lloyd had a great time in the kids club and after a few days had friends to hang out with. My wife is not a big skier so she would relax in the lodge and got massages in the spa. I was hitting the slopes the whole weekend and challenging myself on the runs. It was the perfect vacation, no complaining! Everybody was happy and enjoyed their activities. Next time I am looking for a ski vacation this will top my list. Steve - January 06' |
