Sugarloaf Ski Area - Although I’m glad I left New England to move to Summit County, in my heart, I remain a Sugarloafer. In fact, when you travel through Colorado, you will often see locals who keep the Sugarloaf bumper sticker on their cars. Sugarloaf is not just a ski area. It’s a culture and a philosophy of skiing. A famous sign on a 1950s Sugarloaf cabin has the secret acronym "SIAWOL," which means “Sugarloaf is a way of life.” Here’s why.
Sugarloaf has terrain to suit everyone, from rank beginners to expert skiers and riders. At 4,237 feet, Sugarloaf is the only lift-serviced above-tree line skiing in the East. Sugarloaf also has 2,280 feet of vertical, which allows for the most continuous skiing in New England. Yet unlike the frantic areas in Vermont, the skiing and riding at “The Loaf” takes place in a supportive atmosphere.
Something happens when people arrive at Sugarloaf. Everyone, both staff and guests, seems to get nicer.
There’s another great thing about The Loaf. When you leave your condo in the morning, you can ski right down to the lifts. No need to lug your gear around, or walk on concrete in your boots. Lisa
