Skiing at Buttermilk - When I lived here eight years ago, Buttermilk was nothing more than a place for beginners to be forced to go prepare their skills for the other three mountains owned by Aspen Ski Co. Nowadays the world's best train around the world for their chance to display their skills at the X games on Buttermilk's supernaturally smooth terrain park every January. A nice early morning run on the mountain's endless supply of quality corduroy can be enough to satiate anybody's appetite for fun, due largely to the fact that the mountain is surrounded by more than a half dozen 14,000+ craggy peaks. I always love to take the family here more than any of the other hills managed by the Aspen Ski Co. because of the overall learning-conducive atmosphere that seems utterly devoid of the normal attitude found in so many other places. Skiing at Buttermilk - Buttermilk Mountain, located a few miles downvalley of Aspen, is just what its name implies: easy. It's popular among beginners, families and extreme snowboarders. The last group has made its way to Buttermilk because of the Superpipe and Crazy T'rain Park, which are the showcases of the annual Winter X Games. There's a huge kicker near the base of the mountain, at the end of the park, for those both talented and gutsy enough. Those with carving snowboards love to rip up the mountain and the West Buttermilk area early in the day, when the crisp corduroy is untouched. Cory (January 06)
Skiing at Buttermilk - There isn’t a better place to get your footing on a pair of skis or snowboard than Buttermilk. The slopes are great for beginners, especially children who are leery of the typical crowds found on the neighboring mountains. There’s a great Half Pipe for more adventurous snowboarders… but chances are those experts will head to other mountains. Believe it or not, this mountain has 42 trails… enough to keep the kids busy for the entire day. Jaime Case (December 05)
