Intermediate to advanced is what you will find at Kirkwood. One of Lake Tahoe's higher elevation mountains Kirkwood gets fluffy snow. Known to be the place to go for backcountry runs and cliff drops, Kirkwood offer a couple terrain parks and half pipe on a pretty steep inclination. The realy good backcountry section is a hike and a few lift rides to get to.
Kirkwood Vacations rents privately owned ski-in/ski-out and slopeside condos, all located just steps away from lifts, cross country skiing, and all of the things at the village. Each condo has a kitchen, TV, VCR, fireplace and telephone. If this isn’t what you are looking for they have many other lodges around to fit every need of every person. They have many activities; I think this place has almost every accommodation that you can think of. They have snowshoeing, ice skating, dog sled rides, ice fishing and many more. The pipes and parks are worth checking out; they tend to get busy on weekends.

Skiing at Kirkwood ski resort - Kirkwood offered great expert runs, but there were also a lot of intermediate runs. One thing that could be a problem for some is that this park is not aimed towards beginners’ skiers. The problem is: you ride to the top and the only way down is through expert terrain. It’s excellent for intermediate-advance skiers. Kirkwood has little to no crowds all season.
The runs at Kirkwood are really long and merge with other runs. Not only are the views to die for but the skiing is amazing. There was plenty of snow to cater to anyone’s skiing needs. There is a tremendous backside with plenty of intermediate and advanced runs. The chair lifts to the runs are clearly marked with sign adhering to the difficulty.
Overall if you want to avoid the lines of Squaw Valley, I would recommend coming here. There are plenty of runs and amazing views.
Snowboarding at Kirkwood ski resort - Kirkwood is one of the bigger resorts and is definatly a good for experts. The number 6 (i believe) lift is a high speed lift takes to the very top of a ridge line that on powder days can be a great 20-30ft flying experience, i was able to get a 720 around off of that ridge, it was awsome. After that the same run takes you through some powder trees, a good park and then a pipe. The powder gets used up quick but the park and pipe are always fun to hit up. That is pretty much my experience at Kirkwood becuase all the other lifts are slow and to get to the real good back country you have to take 3 slow lifts, and i don't have the time for that after a 3 hour drive.
