  Alpine Meadows Ski Resort

website: Alpine Meadows
- - Lake Tahoe Ski Resorts - Alpine Meadows:
Alpine Meadows is one of Lake Tahoe’s best kept secrets. Although it is less known than its neighboring Squaw Valley ski resort which may be more popular but is definitely more expensive, Alpine Meadows resort has something for everyone. At a great price, it is comparable in outstanding ski terrains and world class facilities.

Located just six miles outside of Tahoe City in the Tahoe National Forrest on the North Shore, it is an ideal setting. There are many different parks and pipes for the advanced snowboarder and skiers to enjoy. The park is aimed at the advanced skiers, and they seem to populate this mountain more than any other type of skier. They even have a Kid’s Terrain Park, which fosters children’s joy and love of ski. The resort has a full service restaurant and food court on the mountain for convenient and appetizing meals and snacks. With two sides of the mountain aimed for both intermediate and advanced skiers, you will never be bored and will always find your perfect run at Alpine Meadows.

  • Other Features:
    • Superpipe.
    • Terrain Park.
    • Kids' Terrain Park

Skiing Alpine Meadows - This place is truly sick. Soon it will be connected to Squaw Valley and shall rival Alta/Snowbird as our nation's sickest place to get lost and rip powder shots until you fall over. As of now, Alpine Meadows is a skier's paradise because of the seemingly limitless steep runs and cliff bands. Ask a local which hill is their favorite (which is a tough decision out there) and nearly half of them will tell you Alpine Meadows. Personally, I prefer squaw but only by a bit. The Munchkins are one thing that Squaw Valley does not have. They are divided into three chutes: m1, m2, and m3. M1 has only been attempted once and the skier met his maker on that descent. M2 is wonderful because of a nice little choke in the middle that has a mandatory air that is somewhere between 5 feet and twenty feet depending on the level of the snow, and m3 is a nice long 45 degree slope that is one of the finest chutes I've ever found. Skiing at Alpin Meadows - Alpine meadows is one of the best ski resorts in Tahoe. It has great snow, has new high speed lifts so there are few liftlines. Alpine gives you a great backcountry experience, the back bowls are amazing. The only problem with Alpine is the shape of the mountain. The shape makes it so it is hard to access almost a quarter or more of the mountain without hiking. Because of this the snow stays better in those areas but it is a pain to get to. I would choose Alpine over Squaw any day.

Skiing at Alpine Meadows - This park had awesome mountain peaks and killer snow conditions. These things alone drew me to the park. One thing that startled me was that the two mountains were separated. They were easily accessed through a lift. There seemed to be no crowds and plenty of vertical drop, to be enjoyed.

The park was located after the Squaw Valley exit and this helped with crowd control. The park itself was not commercial, which added to the whole experience. Alpine has new high speed lift that gets you up the mountain quickly. I would not necessarily choose alpine over Squaw, because the best parts of the mountain are not easily accessed. This park seemed to appeal to an intermediate type of skier. I enjoyed this park, but recommend that you take the earlier exit and ski Squaw. Nicole - CA 05

Snowboarding at Alpine Meadows - Right next to Squw Valley this ski resort doesn't get enough respect, becuase it has everthing you could ever want in a resort, runs for all level, good lodge, short lines, and a decent park. The park isn't huge but they have a row of 5 different intermediate jumps right after each other which is great practice. I didn't see any rails while i was there, that is ok with me i don't get along with them at all. One of the better resorts in Tahoe but is close to the an even better one Squaw, the real advantige of Alpine Meadows is no crowds. Jad - CA 05
